In support of Relay for Life of Richland County, the Ohio State Reformatory is hosting a murder mystery dinner theatre on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

“You Have the Right to Remain Dead,” written by Pat Cook and directed by Gregg Ashbrook II, takes the audience on a trip to a small community theater group staging a play set in the Deep South. The play’s characters are in an uproar because Fat Daddy, the patriarch of the family, is about to change his will.

Audience members are given the opportunity to identify the culprit is in this murder mystery comedy.

Relay for Life Committee Chair for Youth Recruitment, Teresa Alt, stated about a previous murder mystery dinner theatre experience, “It was a fun and interesting to get to sit down with the actors and interact with them to figure out who did it.”

The proceeds of the event will benefit Relay for Life, with the funds going toward cancer research and patient care.

Graham Chevrolet is sponsoring the dinner, which will be catered by Port-a-Cook Catering. Tickets cost $30 each and there are approximately 28 tickets left.

The targeted fundraising goal for this event is $4,000. To help meet that goal, Relay for Life is looking for sponsorship, which is broken up into three categories: event sponsors at $700, dinner sponsors at $300, table sponsors at $100.

“Anyone can sponsor a table,” said Alt. “If someone who donates would like to have a card on display with an “in memory of…” label or a picture of someone they would like to be honored on one of the dinner tables, we can make that happen.”

Alt has been team captain of “Jeff’s Girls” for the past three years, she said. The team is made up of her mother and two sisters. She noted that her father passed away from prostate cancer, which he suffered from for seven years. Now, Alt and her family would like to pay tribute to his memory by participating in Relay for Life.

“We wanted to fight back,” she said in reference to the battle against cancer.

Anyone can join Alt in this fight. If you are interested in sponsoring the murder mystery event or purchasing tickets, please contact Rose Ramey at rramey@gormanrupp.com or Alt at teresacorbin10@gmail.com or 419-565-2398.
