NASCAR presented the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Security Department and Security Supervisor Cody Chalfant with an Award of Excellence during last week’s NASCAR Summit.
The honor was presented to Mid-Ohio by NASCAR Senior Director of Security Mike Lentz during the sanctioning bodies annual summit held in Concord, N.C. The Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 in August 2013 was the inaugural NASCAR-sanctioned event for Mid-Ohio.
According to NASCAR, “Awards were presented to several individuals who excelled during the 2013 season in their various fields. The Summit is an avenue for representatives from all tracks that host NASCAR and IMSA races to address topics relating to their respective disciplines. Safety and Security are issues every stakeholder in every sport shares the responsibility for but we all rely on a collaborative effort of every public service entity in the community, county, state and federal to sleep well at night knowing we have done the best we could.”
The safety and security operation for the inaugural event was a collaborative effort conducted between Mid-Ohio, The Morrow County Sherriff’s Office, Richland County EMA, the Village of Lexington, O-DOT, OSHP, Homeland Security and other regional and national services.
“Earning this award from NASCAR is a great honor and something that our entire security and guest services teams take pride in,” said Chalfant. “This would not have been possible without crucial participation from local, state and national safety and law enforcement agencies.”
Chalfant has been with Mid-Ohio since 2009 and served as Security Supervisor since 2013. He is a Mansfield native and currently studying Graphic Design at North Central State College.
