David P. Blom, President and CEO of OhioHealth, has been announced as the featured speaker at the Richland Community Development Group’s First Annual Economic Excellence Awards event. The event will be held at the Mansfield Art Center on Tuesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m.

The Richland County’s 2014 First Annual Economic Excellence Awards will provide an opportunity to highlight those businesses, individuals and organizations that have had significant impact on the growth and development of the local economy. Awards will be given in categories including Business Excellence, Economic Impact, Distinguished Performance and Investing in our Future.

Bridget T. McDaniel, Executive Director of RCDG, explained that the event is an opportunity to celebrate all the great efforts that are being made to improve the community. McDaniel further explained that RCDG is looking to recognize companies that have made significant investments here in the last year, organizations that have made a positive impact on our economic climate, individuals who have contributed in an outstanding manner, and entities that have worked to better ensure a positive future for our area.

“Having OhioHealth’s CEO, David Blom, participate in this celebration is especially meaningful as the alliance of MedCentral with OhioHealth will have a significant economic impact on Richland County,” noted McDaniel. “We are excited to hear his message for our community.”

The Richland Young Professionals (RYP) will also be making awards presentations. RYP is a new sector of the RCDG whose goal is to connect with the community, collaborate with each other and help Richland County thrive.

David P. Blom is president and chief executive officer of OhioHealth, a not-for-profit, faith-based, healthcare system in Columbus, OH. With 21,000 physicians, associates and volunteers and more than $2 billion in net revenue, OhioHealth is devoted to its community mission of improving the health of those it serves.

Blom holds a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and received his master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He joined the OhioHealth family of hospitals and health services in 1983 and since then has held progressive management positions and was instrumental in the development and growth of the OhioHealth system. In March 2002, he was named president and CEO of the system. Prior to that, Blom served as president of OhioHealth’s central Ohio hospitals – Riverside Methodist Hospital, Grant Medical Center and Doctors Hospital – while also serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer of OhioHealth.

Blom maintains many professional and community affiliations, is a board member of for-profit and non-profit organizations, and has led numerous civic development activities. He currently is serving on the board of Columbus 2020, Columbus Partnership, Columbus Downtown Development Commission, Columbus Foundation, Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA) and Provista. He is also a member of the local World Presidents’ Organization (WPO) He resides in Westerville with his wife and has three adult daughters and two grandchildren.
