Dowds Elementary School in Shelby held their annual Polar Express Day in the kindergarten classes last week. For the occassion, all of the kindergarten students and teachers dressed in their pajamas for the day and took a “visit” to different countries on The Polar Express.
“This is the third year that we have had pajama day with the Polar Express. We usually have different morning activities for the kids to participate in. We do this because we want to share the different holiday traditions that are happening around the world. We travel to different countries and the countries that we visit include Mexico, Australia, and Germany,” said teacher Anne Finn.
Each kindergarten classroom represented a different country for the students to visit. In Finn’s classroom, Germany was the destination.
During the afternoon, students watched “The Polar Express” movie. “After we get finished with our morning activities we have all the kids watch ‘The Polar Express’ movie. They drink hot chocolate and eat popcorn. They all really enjoy this day,” said Finn.
One kindergarten student, Tristen Dawson, said that he has seen the movie before. “I have watched the movie before and I saw the Polar Express when it was in town. My favorite part of the movie is when they ring the bell,” said Dawson.
Student Brooklyn Thompson has also seen the movie and was downtown when the Polar Express made its way through Shelby.
“I saw the Polar Express when it was here and my favorite part of the movie is when they all drink hot chocolate and sing,” said Thompson. Thompson’s classmate Remington Schroedernoted his favorite part of the movie. “I really like when they drink the hot chocolate on the train. That is my favorite part,” said Schroeder.
