A special appearance from Breanna Crunkilton’s second grade class at Eastview Elementary and updates regarding the new middle school were presented in Madison’s latest board meeting.

Crunkilton and four of her students made a special appearance at the board meeting. “These are my second grade students, Charlee Herder, Olivia Barley, Irelyn O’Connell, and Amaya Davis. They are going to do a reader’s theatre and the objective for a reader’s theatre is to help the students improve their fluency. We look at things like pace, smoothness, and expression while they are reading. They have been working on this for about a week,” said Crunkilton. The students read a story titled, “Too Many Pumpkins.”

District Technology Coordinator Steve Barr updated the board on new information regarding the new middle school that is under construction. “In September we had a kick off meeting with everyone who will be a part of technology installments at the new building.” Barr added that the meeting had gone well and progress continues.

“I think we have got a great group of contractors for the new building. They all seem to be doing a fantastic job,” he reported.

He added the new building will hold 113 new telephones with an extensive network. The new building will also increase the number of security cameras from 35 to 120. Upon completion, the building will hold 320,000 feet of network cable. “That is about 60 miles worth of cable that is stringing through that building,” said Barr.

Eastview Elementary Principal Jonathan Muro presented progress at his school. Enrollment is at 49 students and the results of a staff survey were encouraging.

“Overwhelmingly the response was that the staff was their most positive attribute at Eastview Elementary, which is great because it is good to have a staff that works together, respect each other, want to compliment each other, and do whatever we can do that is best for the kids,” said Muro.

Muro highlighted committees that have been established at Eastview. “We have three committees and that a representative from each grade level would serve on one of those three so that the committees would have representation from the entire building, grade wise. We have our Building Leadership, Behavior Committee, and Awards Committee,” said Muro.

Superintendant Lee Kaple informed the board of special dates for the new middle school. “Tentatively we are going to have our building dedication formal ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. Of course we hope to have everyone there that is able to make it and we are planning a good day. The weekend prior to that on Jan. 4 and 5, somewhere in that weekend, is to have an open house to those who are interested in going through the building. We think it will be a great afternoon for everyone,” said Kaple.
