“Shelby is very good about taking care of those who are in need of help,” said Sheryl Cramer, Director of Shelby Helpline.

The Shelby Helpline opened in 1978 as a project of Shelby Christian Outreach.’ It is an incorporated body to oversee Shelby Help Line Ministries,” said Cramer. “The Shelby Helpline is a non-profit organization that helps with financial aid, clothing, furniture, medical equipment, and school supplies. Budgeting classes and GED classes are offered, too. Shelby Helpline operates with well over 200 volunteers,” said Cramer.

GED classes are offered beginning on September 3 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Clothing is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. “School supplies will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will continue offering school supplies leading into the first couple weeks of school, too,” said Cramer.

“Every Thursday, we offer a free meal from 6-7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on South Gamble. A lot of our funding and volunteer work comes from church families within the area. We are very appreciative of all the work they provide,” said Cramer.

On September 12, the agency will begin collecting for the Community Christmas Program, collecting food, linens, and toys.  “The items that are offered at Shelby Helpline are donated by members of the community. It’s great to see people giving to those in need,” said Cramer.
