“This is part of Richland County heritage,” said Howard Harriman, a member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Society. Harriman was referring to the Kiddie Tractor Pull, a family favorite tradition for the past 26 years at the Richland County Fair.

Organized by the Fair Board and sponsored by Gorman Rupp and Jones Potato Chips the event was held in the Show Arena on Friday. And moms, dads, grandmothers and grandfathers filled the seats to cheer the children on in their quest to go the distance.

Bruce Robinson, a board member and judge for the event remarked, “I love to see the expressions on the kids faces.”

There were five age groups competing, 4-5 year old, 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 and 13-14, and the children aimed to please their cheering supporters. Trophies were donated by Awardsmith Trophy & Plaques for the winner of each group and ribbons provided for everyone who participated. Jones Potato Chips donated individual bags of chips to be given to every child who participated and the participants also received a coupon for a dollar off of a snowcone from Tropical Snow at the fair.

“This is a free, fun event for families, the kids and adults,” Harriman said. He also added, “Everybody has fun, everybody helps, the people that donate the prizes, it’s wonderful.”
