James Richard “Jim” Freeman, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Lexington Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 73. His daughter Kim was by his side. Kim cared for Jim for the past few years as he underwent therapy for prostate cancer.

Born at home on May 13, 1940, he lived his entire life in Richland County. Jim loved to work hard, and did, tending the Freeman farm near Butler for many years and helping neighbors with their farms as well.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Anita Lynn, and parents Edna (Smith) and Raymond Freeman.

He is survived by his daughter Kim Freeman of Butler, former wife Evelyn Freeman of Mansfield, sister Janice Wery of Ann Arbor, Michigan, sister Jenny (Martin) Gottesman of Columbus, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Freeman family will receive friends Monday, August 12, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery, surrounded by soil from the Freeman farm.
