Rain or shine, Downtown Shelby will host the 6th Annual Shelby Cruise-In on August 17.

This year, there is a 1950’s theme cash award for the best dressed guy and girl. Anybody can dress up to be a contestant for the $25 cash prize. 

The event is open to all makes or models of trucks and cars. “Last year, there were 267 cars that participated here,” said organizer, Larry Kuhn. Pre-registration is $15 and comes with with a t-shirt and a dash plaque. Registration of $10 can be made on the day of the event, but the t-shirt and dash plaque are not included.  Registration will take place from 12-3 p.m.

All money for this event will go to a charity in Shelby. Kuhn said, “Last year all of the money went to the Shelby Hotline.”

Cruising is available from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. with a parade at 3 p.m. Some of the cars will travel to Shelby Pointe on Rogers Lane and Crestwood Care Center on West Main.

“We wanted people to see the cars who may not be able to make it downtown,” said Kuhn.

There will also be an “Xtreme Gravity Show” at 6:30 pm. Xtreme Gravity puts together shows that combine both the new and old aspects. Trophy presentation will be held at 8 p.m.

The 9:30 p.m. “Light the Night Show” will showcase vehicles equipped with under car neon lighting.
