Dr. Stephen T. Bihari, 89, 1265 Smith Road, passed away peacefully, on the morning of July 26, 2013, at home.
This was his final goodbye that began in 2000, when he first exhibited signs of Alzheimer’s.
Born September 30, 1923, in Rév, Hungary, the son of Julius and Rose (Mihály) Bihari, he grew up and resided in Budapest until 1956. He lived in Canada until coming to the USA in 1964, at the invitation of Ashland College, where he was a professor and chairman of languages, teaching French, German, Spanish, Latin and Italian, until his retirement in 1988.
He held a doctoral degree of civil and criminal law, (Doctor Utriusque Juris) and a separate doctorate degree in history, from Budapest, Hungary; completed post-doctoral studies at the Sorbonne, Paris, France, the University of Toronto, Canada, as well as Case Western University, Cleveland, OH.
On November 21, 1959, he married Martha S. Melzer, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Perry R. Bihari; a daughter, Andrea S. Bihari; grandson, Sándor, of Ashland OH; a sister, Clara Roberts, England, a brother, George Bihari, Hungary, and nieces in England.
He was member of the Kiwanis Club, University Professors, Big Brother, National History Honor Society.
Dr. Bihari was an avid reader, and lifetime student of everything around him, with particular interests in history, current affairs, foreign languages, fine arts, travels.
He willed his body to medical research at Ohio State University. The family will have a private service at a later time. Many thanks to Hospice for their invaluable help!
