Despite the wet weather conditions, participants were out to support the Mid-Ohio Home Health 5K Run & Walk for Alzheimer’s on Saturday morning in Lexington. “Everything has gone surprisingly smooth throughout this event,” said Mid-Ohio Home Health Marketing Director and organizer of the 5K, Leo Hess.
The 5K marked the first year that Mid-Ohio Home Health has hosted this type of event. “We’re hoping to do this every year and we would like to change the cause that we are representing every year, too,” said Erin Stucky of Mid-Ohio Home Health.
“Alzheimer’s is becoming quite frequent and we are running into the disease more and more. We have three families here today that have been affected by the disease. We want to offer support to those affected,” said Hess. “We had 161 participants here this morning,” said Hess.
“The money that will be raised for this event will go towards the Alzheimer’s Association and we are also going to donate to a couple of families here locally,” said Hess.
“I have run in about 10 5Ks and we are participating in this event because we know quite a few people that have been affected by Alzheimer’s,” said Jim Dudley, participant of the 5K. Dudley, his wife, Susan Fernyak, and step-daughter Cade Raubenheimer are visiting family in Richland County. They traveled from San Francisco, California.
Dave Rader from the Mansfield-Lexington area posted the 5K’s best time, clocking in at 19:07.
