Richland County Sheriff Deputy Jeff Frazier will be referred to the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association for their Lifesaving Award. The purpose of the BSSA’s Awards Program is to recognize actions performed by members of the Sheriff’s command in the State of Ohio. On June 23, at approximately 3:11 p.m., Frazier administered CPR to a civilian, saving his life.
On that Sunday, while in route to another call, Deputy Frazier identified a motorist in trouble in the area of Mansfield-Lucas Rd and Davidson St., Mansfield. After observing some erratic driving, Frazier saw the motorist exit his vehicle. He appeared to stagger backwards and fell to the ground hitting his head on the roadway.
Frazier ran to the aid of the victim and attempted to talk to him, but received no response. Frazier found that the victim was no longer breathing and had no pulse, so Frazier administered a series of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) compression.
Frazier then called for EMS and continued to administer solo CPR. Deputy Frazier was able to revive the victim, who began breathing on his own. The victim, Gary Rembert, was transported by Madison Twp. EMS to Med Central Mansfield. After five days of hospitalization, Rembert was released from the hospital.
This was Deputy Frazier’s second lifesaving event. He previously saved a SWAT trainee who had collapsed during a training run at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.
“We couldn’t be prouder of the job Jeff did in saving yet another life”, said Sheriff J. Steve Sheldon. “We are ecstatic that this man is alive and well because of Deputy Frazier’s quick-thinking actions.”
