Catherine “Cathy” Irene Murphy, 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Altercare in Bucyrus. Catherine was born on January 3, 1947, to the late Hugh and Nettie (Harrington) Denoon in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

She graduated from Galion High School in 1965 and later worked as a cook there for 27 years, where she was a familiar and caring presence to students and staff alike.

Cathy married the love of her life, Howard “Dean” Murphy, on July 10, 1966. Together, they shared many cherished years filled with love, laughter, and special memories before his passing on November 3, 2005.

She was a devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where her faith and kindness were evident to all who knew her. She deeply loved her grandchildren and took great joy in supporting them in all they did, especially cheering them on at cross country meets, swim events, and football games.

Cathy had a fond appreciation for Longaberger baskets and found happiness in the simple pleasures they brought. A constant source of encouragement, she faithfully supported her children in their many activities, including band, baton, and Boy Scouts, always present with pride and enthusiasm.

Known affectionately as “everyone’s mom,” she had a warm, welcoming spirit and a caring heart that made everyone feel like family.

Left to cherish Catherine’s memory are her children, Jodie (David) Jones and Scott Murphy; her grandchildren, Bryan Jones, Katie (Chase) Lockwood, Cody Murphy, and Garrett Murphy; and her brother, John (Sue) Denoon.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Nettie Denoon; her beloved husband, Howard “Dean” Murphy; her daughter-in-law, Lori Murphy; and her brother, Horace James Denoon.
