James Thomas Duncan, 71, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Galion Hospital. James was born on August 30, 1954, to the late James and Ivory (Price) Duncan in Galion, Ohio.
He began his working years at Globe Steel, where he built the strong work ethic that would define his career. He later continued that path at Schilling. Through long days, steady effort, and pride in doing a job well, he earned the respect of those he worked beside. After a lifetime of dedication, he retired from Schilling with a career that was truly well earned.
James married the love of his life, Rhonda (Marshall) Duncan, on August 20, 1977. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories, sharing many wonderful years side by side.
James found joy in the simple, honest pleasures of life. Whether he was casting a line into quiet water at sunrise or tending carefully to his garden and yard, he believed the best days were spent creating, fixing, and enjoying the outdoors.
A natural maker, he could often be found in the garage turning ordinary things into something special. James painted beautiful scenes, sometimes on canvas and sometimes on old saw blades, giving them new life as rustic works of art. With the same creative spirit, he crafted unique lamps and tackled just about any handyman project that came his way. If something was broken, he’d find a way to fix it-or improve it.
He also had a deep appreciation for art and relaxation, especially when watching Bob Ross, whose calm voice and “happy little trees” perfectly matched his own love of painting and peaceful creativity.
But more than anything, he will be remembered for his humor. He loved a good joke and rarely missed the chance to make people laugh. With his quick wit and easygoing nature, he had a way of turning any gathering into a celebration. He was truly the life of the party; someone whose presence made every room warmer and every moment brighter.
Left to cherish James’ memory are his beloved wife, Rhonda Duncan; his children, Heather Duncan and Myles Duncan; his grandchildren, Clayton, Brandon, Lynx, and Luna; and his siblings, Teresia (Jeff) Mallett and Renee (Terry) McMillen.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his siblings, Joyce Workman and Timothy Duncan.
