MANSFIELD — The Renaissance Education Department will present its annual Improv Underground “Open Mic” Night performance on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m.

The event will be in the Renaissance Theatre’s black-box venue at 166 Park Ave. West in downtown Mansfield.

This lively, one-night-only performance will feature middle and high school students from the Renaissance’s Improv Underground after-school program, showcasing the improvisational skills they have developed during a six-week course focused on creativity, collaboration, and quick thinking.

The event is free to the public, with tickets available on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Improv Underground provides young performers with a unique opportunity to explore the art of improvisational comedy in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through interactive games, group exercises, and spontaneous scene work, students learn to think on their feet, trust their instincts, and support one another as an ensemble.

Participants in the program develop valuable life skills including confidence, communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving, all while discovering the joy of live performance.

The program is open to students ages 14–19 and is led by Renaissance Teaching Artist Dauphne Maloney, widely recognized throughout the region for her dedication to youth theatre education.

During the performance, students will present a series of improvised scenes, comedic challenges, and audience-inspired games—resulting in unpredictable, laugh-out-loud moments that highlight the creativity and personality of each young performer.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the performance, and no advance reservations are required. Tickets may be obtained online at www.rentickets.org, or at the door.
