MANSFIELD — Cotton candy clouds floated above tables stacked with chocolate bars, candy and enough Wonka Bars to make Willy himself jealous.

“Pure Imagination” opened the night as Ellen Heinz, Clint Knight and Jessica Gribben set the tone for an evening blending celebration with a touch of whimsical entertainment.

By the time guests reached for their Wonka Bars at the end of the program — searching for one lucky golden ticket at each table — the Richland Area Chamber had already handed out its highest honors.

Jeff Parton: The heartbeat in action

The first award of the night, Ambassador of the Year, honored someone whose time and energy strengthen the organization and expand its reach across Richland County.

Our ambassadors are truly the heartbeat of our organization.

Parton credited his employer, Park National Bank, for giving him the opportunity to serve.

He also pointed out two guests, Merris Welge and Doc Stumbo – community legends. Parton said it is kind they continue to lead the group and be the awesome community members they are.

“Our team as ambassadors is the hardest-working group of volunteers who get paid nothing,” Parton said. “They really show up for this organization.”

Jennifer Wagner, director of Member Engagement, Retention and Services for the chamber, didn’t hesitate to describe what makes the ambassadors special.

“Our ambassadors are truly the heartbeat of our organization,” Wagner said. “They welcome new members, celebrate ribbon cuttings and lend a hand at our events. They drive engagement in our community.”

She said Parton stands out because of both how and why he serves.

“This year’s ambassador of the year doesn’t just show up — he shows up fully,” Wagner said. “He brings enthusiasm, passion and genuine care. He gives his time because he sincerely believes in the work of our chamber and the strength of our community.”

She said what really sets Parton apart is why he does it: He believes in people, in Richland County and in the work they do — which makes the chamber stronger.

Economic impact recognized

While ambassadors drive the Chamber’s daily engagement, business investment fuels long-term growth.

Before the night of the event, the Chamber announced its 2026 Economic Impact Award winners.

The award highlights businesses, individuals and organizations that support economic, workforce and community development in Richland County.

This year’s honorees included CNG (Charter Next Generation), Hanline Group, Michael Byrne Manufacturing and Weiss Industries.

Jessica Gribben, Economic & Community Development Director, said the Chamber launched the awards more than a decade ago to spotlight momentum in the local economy.

“We created the Economic Impact Awards in 2014 to celebrate positive things happening in our economy,” Gribben said.

Since then, the Chamber has honored 48 different businesses, organizations and individuals for their contributions to the community, she said.
