Rory Charles Furr, 58, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 10, 1967, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to the late Wilbert “Willie” and Darcia (Gaul) Furr.

Rory was a proud graduate of Galion High School and went on to build a life defined by hard work, service, and leadership. He answered the call to serve his community by becoming a firefighter, later founding the fire department for Jefferson Township. For 15 years, he served with distinction as a fire captain, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Throughout his career, Rory dedicated himself to multiple departments and took great pride in mentoring countless firefighters, shaping not only their skills but their character. His commitment to service extended beyond the firehouse as well; for 13 years, he faithfully served as a custodian at Colonel Crawford High School, where his steady presence and strong work ethic touched the lives of students and staff alike.

He married the love of his life, Tammy (Bell) Furr, on September 7, 1991, and together they shared 34 years of love, devotion, laughter, and unwavering support, building a life and family rooted in deep commitment and cherished memories.

Outside of his career, Rory lived life with passion, generosity, and a hands-on spirit. He had a lifelong love for speed and engines, from drag racing to racing motorcycles, go-carts, and even tractor pulling-a true “motorhead.” A jack of all trades, Rory was the person everyone called when something needed to be fixed or built, always willing to lend his time, tools, and knowledge without hesitation. Deeply devoted to his faith, he played bass guitar at his church and faithfully served as a deacon for five years. Above all else, Rory was a devoted family man who cherished time with his loved ones and had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. His talents, kindness, and willingness to help others will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Left to cherish Rory’s memory are his beloved wife, Tammy; his children, Wesley (Brook) Furr of Bucyrus and Jared (Victoria) Furr of Sulphur Springs; his grandchildren, Colton, Brinley, and Willow; his siblings, Ron (Tina) Furr, Melodie (Mike) Swango, Kevin (Debbie) Furr, and Steve Furr, all of Galion; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life honoring Rory will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Community Christian Church, with Dr. Daniel Turner officiating.

Memorial contributions in Rory’s honor may be made to the Crawford County Board of Developmental Disabilities in support of autism awareness.
