MANSFIELD Mansfield-area officials are on the scene at North Lake Park Friday afternoon investigating what is believed to be a truck submerged in the park’s pond.

Local officials blocked off all entrances to the park. Emergency vehicles are on the scene from Mansfield police and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

A backhoe and crime scene unit van are standing by. The temperature on the bank at the pond was 28 degrees at 3:30 p.m.

Dive team members entered the water just after 3:30 p.m. Officials estimate they are cutting through 4 inches of ice hence the vehicle had to have been in the pond for some length of time.

Authorities estimate the object is submerged in 10 to 12 feet of water.

Richland Source is on the scene of this developing story.
