EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a developing story. Updates will be added as they become available.

MANSFIELD — Mansfield-area officials are on the scene at North Lake Park Friday afternoon investigating what is believed to be a truck submerged in the park’s pond.

Local officials blocked off all entrances to the park. Emergency vehicles are on the scene from Mansfield police and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

A backhoe and crime scene unit van are standing by. The temperature on the bank at the pond was 28 degrees at 3:30 p.m.

Dive team members entered the water just after 3:30 p.m. Officials estimate they are cutting through 4 inches of ice — hence the vehicle had to have been in the pond for some length of time.

Authorities estimate the object is submerged in 10 to 12 feet of water.
