George Frank, age 97, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on February 24, 1928 in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of Albert and Ruth Frank. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1946. He attended The Ohio State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Marcella Grau on January 23, 1949. As part of the National Guard, he was stationed in Dover, DE and anticipated being deployed; however, his unit was not utilized, and they were informed by their commander, “Boys, you are going home”. He returned to his young bride pregnant with their first child. Together they raised 2 daughters, Constance Lou and Suzanne Joyce.
He worked throughout his childhood at his father’s brewery, Frank and Son, later continuing at The Coca Cola Company as bottling plant supervisor for 33 years. When they were closing the plant and told him he’d have to relocate, he took a job with Pepsi-Cola uninterested in leaving his beloved Mansfield. He continued there for 11 years until he retired in 1993.
He spent the first 10 years of retirement going on roadtrips with his wife, visiting his grandchildren at college, and traveling often to Florida, South Carolina and Canada. He loved sailing at the Mohican Sailing Club and was an avid participant in numerous races on Lake Erie. He volunteered at St. Paul Lutheran church for many years serving on church council until he and Marcella transferred to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where they ran the blood drives and “Souper” Bowl Sunday. He lived for almost all his life in Mansfield, but after his 91st birthday, moved to Columbus to be closer to his daughter. He resided at The Forum at Knightsbridge for the past 6 1/2 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marcella and is survived by his daughters, Connie (Steve) Schmidt and Suzie Frank; his grandchildren, Erin (Scott) Leyton and Nathan (Ebony) Schmidt; and his three great-grandchildren, Izzy and Miles Leyton, and Olivia Schmidt.
The family will be receiving friends at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the Holy Trinity Church in Mansfield, 525 W. Cook Rd. The funeral service will be led by Rev.
