Selva J. Crawford, age 82 of Galion, formerly of Mount Gilead, passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, surrounded by family.
Selva will be dearly missed by the love of her life, James “Bill” Crawford; daughter Rachel Crawford; two sisters Emma Sipes and Ona Baker; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her dear canine companion, Valentine.
Selva was born on September 6, 1943, in Buchanan County, Virginia, to Goldie and Quinton Looney. She graduated from Johnsville High School in 1961.
She met her husband of 53 years, Bill, in the hospital when he was an orderly and she was a patient. They married on January 15, 1972.
Selva enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed relaxing with a good word search book or coloring, and she dearly loved her family. Her favorite hobby was collecting novelty salt and pepper shakers, accumulating over 500 pairs throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her mother Goldie Looney and father Quinton Looney; mother-in-law Rachel K. Crawford and father-in-law James W. Crawford, Sr.; brother Homer Looney; sister Cora Sargent; and brother-in-law Gerald Sipes.
A celebration of Selva’s life will be held at a later date.
