TOLEDO — Toledo Central Catholic will be a tough assignment for any remaining foe in the Ohio high school football playoffs.
Ontario found that out on Friday night. The Fighting Irish bounced the Warriors 35-0 in a Division III, Region 10 postseason opener at Toledo’s Gallagher Stadium.
There’s no shame for Ontario. TCC is the defending Division III state runner-up, and has a long tradition of football excellence.
It is however, a stark message to Lexington, which will host the Fighting Irish next week in what figures to be a rugged playoff tilt.
Sixth-seeded Toledo Central Catholic will bring a 7-4 mark into that clash. The third-seeded Minutemen (9-1) earned a first-round bye. The Fighting Irish topped Lex 35-7 in last season’s postseason clash.
Ontario, the No. 11 seed, finished the year with a 6-5 record.
TCC, which has won three straight, is led by one of the top 50 high school football players in the nation. Senior cornerback Victor Singleton, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, is headed to Texas A&M next season.
