Doris Gombosch, 79, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital Cancer Unit in Columbus, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 25, 1945 in Langgons, Germany, the daughter of Helmut and Ilse Muller. In 1964, she met George Gombosch while he was in the Army stationed in Germany. Doris came to America with George and proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 1969. After raising her family, she went to work at AVI Food Systems until her retirement.

Doris loved to bake and her kitchen was never without German cookies, a cake roll or some other delicious dessert. She enjoyed being outside and always made sure she got in her daily walk. She had a passion for gardening and plants thrived in her care as was evident by looking at her home. Gardening was a passion she passed on to her children. An avid football fan, she could be found every Sunday cheering on her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Doris was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Along with George, Doris was instrumental in taking care of the church until its closure.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George; children Steve (Tracy) Gombosch and their children Megan, Patrick, Allyson, Morgan (Gabriel) & Joshua; Mike (Sheri) Gombosch and their children Alex (Jess), Rachel and Leah; Tim (Susan) Gombosch and their children Kathryn, Kristen, Kim (Bill) and Kierstyn (Austin); Tina (Mike) Wilson and their children Justyn and Sydney (Keaton); 15 great grandchildren; sister Marlis Romer of Germany; aunt and uncle Inga and Hector Gonzalez of Missouri; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Mary Gombosch, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Luke and RoseAnn Gombosch, and recently her beloved kitty Mushy.

Visitation will take place Friday, October 24, 2025 from 5-7pm at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery.
