SHELBY — The Whippets left no doubt Friday night.
After a Week 4 scare against Galion, Shelby (5-0, 2-0 MOAC) pitched a 48-0 shutout of Highland at the Whippet Athletic Complex. The win extends Shelby’s regular-season winning streak to 18 games.
The Whippets limited Highland to 62 yards of total offense and forced two fumbles, recovering one. Offensively, Shelby looked just as sharp.
Scoring on every offensive possession, the Whippets racked up 391 yards of total offense — 281 through the air and 110 on the ground.
Shelby jumped to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 34 by halftime. Five different Whippets scored in the first half, including Brayden DeVito, Michael Shepherd, Brady Bowman, Carter Kessler and Travis Slone.
Played with a running clock, the second half left enough time for Shelby to score twice more, including TDs from Bowman and freshman running back Luke Blevins.

Another big stat night for Whippets
DeVito completed 17-of-19 passes for 244 yards and 4 TDs. On the ground, the Air Force commit had a relatively quiet night — 11 yards — but rushed for a score.
Shepherd caught a pair of passes for 53 yards and a TD. Shepherd also completed two passes for 37 yards.
Bowman added another impressive game to his resumé, piling up 149 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Fellow junior Kayden Paz reeled in two passes for 44 yards. Kessler scored on his lone 4-yard reception.

Blevins led all rushers with 53 yards and a score. Slone added 25 yards on the ground with a TD.
Highland QB Kane Stover attempted just one pass, which resulted in an incompletion. Stover did rush five times for 23 yards.
Five other Fighting Scots ran the ball at least once, combining for 39 yards.
The Whippets will be on the road in Week 6 with a trip to River Valley (2-3, 1-1 MOAC).
Highland will continue its road trek with a visit to Galion to face the Tigers (3-2, 1-1 MOAC), who defeated Ontario on Friday 7-0.
