MANSFIELD – The Richland County Foundation recently awarded grants for this school year to local teachers across Richland County for their creative or supplemental programs not covered by school funding.
The grants are awarded to individual classroom teachers or small teams of classroom teachers with a maximum grant amount of $1,500.
This year, two Abraxas teachers and one F.I.R.S.T. School teacher received Education Grants: Patrick Browning (Abraxas), Self-Expression Through Art, $1,500 Julie Pfeifer (Abraxas), Utilizing Resources to Bridge Gaps, $1,500 Chris Jones (F.I.R.S.T.), Lifetime Fitness, $1,328.32.
“The Richland County Foundation offering the education grant has given me the opportunity to explore projects in art that would not be possible without their funding,” said Pat Browning.
“I am so thankful for their support and am excited to receive the materials that will support my students in their creative endeavors.”
Julie Pfeifer expressed her appreciation to the Richland County Foundation, too.
“I am so thankful that The Richland County Foundation is supporting our school and my students,” Pfeifer said. “We are excited to receive materials for both math and reading.”
Pfeifer explained that the math materials will provide easy to understand examples of math concepts to help students increase their understanding while the reading materials will be added to the school library to support literacy throughout the school.
“I understand how interconnected mental health and physical health are,” Chris Jones said. “I believe that with the help from this grant I will be able to further our mission to improve both for the students at F.I.R.S.T. School.
“We are very appreciative of the support from the Richland County Foundation over the years.”
The Richland County Foundation is one of the largest private sources of grant making in Richland County and administers over 430 charitable funds established by individuals, families, and businesses.

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center provides specialized academic and support services to 13 school districts and over 20,000 students in Crawford, Morrow and Richland Counties.
Client districts receive services from curriculum, gifted and special education consultants, speech pathologists, psychologists, special education teachers, occupational therapists and physical therapists.
