Josephine ”Josie” Dunn, 87, of Crestline, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital, Mansfield after a brief illness.
Josie was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 14, 1929 to the late Matteo and Florence (Fanelli) Anatra. She married Jerome J. “Jerry” Dunn on Feb. 3, 1951 and he survives her.
A homemaker for most of her life, Josie worked for six years as a dietary aide at the former Crestline Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.
A woman of strong faith, she was a sweet and gentle soul. Family was the most important part of Josie’s life. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who raised a great family.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and ceramics, creating items that her family will always cherish. Josie had an amazing singing voice and would often sing to her younger siblings, children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Karen and Thomas Presler, of Galion, Mark Dunn, of Newark, Susan and John O’Leary, of Doylestown, and Helen and Terry Sauder, of Crestline; her 11 grandchildren, Jill and George Neuman, Michael Presler, Evan and Monica Presler, Jennifer and Darin Brown, Mark and Christine Dunn, Angela and Darin Griffith, Sarah Bumgardner, Scott and Sarah Haley, Jack and Jami Harley, Tiffani Sauder, and Mitch Sauder; 18 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Leo and Jayne Anatra, of Crestline, Florence Reinhard, of Crestline, Samuel and Josephine Anatra, of Crestline, Victor and Phyllis Anatra, of Ontario, Diane and Lowell Assenheimer, of Bucyrus, and Bernadette Wilson, of St. John’s, Florida.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Steven Michael Dunn, and Phillip Jerome Dunn; and seven siblings, infant brother, Bartolo, Matthew, Bartolo, Alex, and Albert Anatra, Frances Abata, and Marianna Neuman.
Friends may call Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St., Crestline, where a Vigil Service will follow at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Rev. Christopher Bohnsack, Celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
