BELLVILLE: With a quiet elegance that spoke louder than words and a warm, kind heart that drew others near, Dorothy lived a life of grace and compassion.
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
She entered this world with her best friend and twin sister, Doris, on March 25, 1939 in Sandusky, Ohio to her late parents Harry and Catherine (Morris) Welchons. Dorothy attended and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1957.
Through her twin sister Doris, Dorothy was introduced to the love of her life Floyd Young. The couple were wed on July 13, 1962 in Bellville, Ohio and shared 63 wonderful years of life, love, and memories together. Dorothy and Floyd lived a life of strong faith and attended the Church of God in Bellville for close to 50 years together, and more recently worshipped at Story Side Church.
Dorothy lived a life marked by service, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her. As a Salvation Army Officer, she spent two years traveling far and wide, offering help wherever it was needed. At home, her heart belonged to her family- especially her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her faithful dog, Abby. Known for her famous egg sandwiches and her willingness to drop everything to help search for a misplaced item, Dorothy was the kind of person everyone turned to. It was simply understood that she was ‘everyone’s mom,’ as her home was always open, filled with her children’s friends and an endless supply of snacks and treats. She never met a stranger, and her gentle spirit and ready helping hand left an impression on everyone she encountered.
She is survived by her loving husband Floyd Young, legal guardian Captain Edward Holmberg, children Scott (Melissa) Young and Kim Young, brother Claude (Carol) Welchons, grandchildren Christian, Zachary, Carissa, Morgan, Caitlyn, Joshua, Kayla, and Allison, great-grandchildren Mason, Owen, Roman, Beckett, River, Kyler, Oaklynn, Addison, Ayden, Weston, Bentley, Nolan, and Brooklynn, as well as numerous extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her legal guardian Pathina Holmberg, siblings Hazel Griffith, Marjorie Sommers, Frieda Lorenze, Mary Alice Gebard, Gertrude Wade, and Doris Parsons, grandson Shane, great-grandson Clayton, and grandson-in-law Richie.
The Young family will receive guests on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm in the Snyder Funeral Homes, Bellville Chapel where a funeral service honoring Dorothy will begin immediately after. Burial to follow in Bellville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Salvation Army in Dorothy’s honor.
