MANSFIELD — Holly and Chris Troupe are making their mark in downtown Mansfield.
Two years after opening The Boot Life, the couple opened a second retail store dedicated to selling vintage clothing and vintage-inspired accessories. The new business, “Old Soul Attire and Goods,” is located right next to The Boot Life on West Fourth Street.
Opening day was Tuesday.
The Troupes had planned on opening a second store, but weren’t sure when or how.
“We thought it was going to be in a different city, or perhaps another Boot Life location, and just kept praying about it,” Holly said. “Then this space became available and we considered just extending The Boot Life.”
But the more they prayed about it, the more they leaned toward the idea of opening a vintage retail store.
“We could have extended The Boot Life, but that’s the same customer base,” Holly said. “There might be a little overlap, perhaps, but I think it’s going to be a whole different customer base (at Old Soul) and downtown Mansfield needs that.
“For Mansfield to move forward, we need to have diversity (of shops) in downtown.”
The store offers both male and female attire, as well as apothecary goods, including essential oils. Most of the items for sale were sourced from a wholesale supplier and were made in the U.S.
Eras represented primarily range from the 1960s through the 1980s.
A self-described minimalist, Holly said she appreciates vintage wear because of its quality, craftsmanship and uniqueness.
“I’m a bit of a treasure hunter,” she said. “I like to find something that no one else has.”
For those who may be new to vintage shopping, styling advice will be available, Holly assured.
“We’ll help you out,” she said.
Old Soul Attire and Goods is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
