Bellville voters approved a replacement levy to support police services Tuesday night. The replacement, as well as a cemetery services renewal levy, will last through 2028.

BUTLER — The Bellville Police Department is investigating an incident in Butler after a man was hit by a vehicle in that village on Friday night.

Bellville Police officers responded to a call for assistance at approximately 7:05 p.m., according to a press release from the department.

The Bellville Police Department is handling the investigation to preserve transparency and avoid a conflict of interest, as the operator of the vehicle is an employee with the Village of Butler, according to Bellville Chief Jon Fletcher.

The man who was struck had an outstanding warrant from the Adult Parole Authority (APA). He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Fletcher, the APA is a state agency whose officers oversee people with felony convictions when they are released from prison. If a parolee fails to meet the requirements set forth by their parole officer, the APA puts out an arrest warrant.

The Bellville Police Department has obtained all area camera footage from where the incident took place. Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

“I really can’t give a timeline (on when the investigation will be complete), however I do have two officers working this case in the hopes that I can speed it up,” Fletcher said Wednesday morning. “But I also want to make sure that no rock is left unturned.”
