MANSFIELD — The City of Mansfield’s Board of Control on Tuesday approved replacing three aging traffic signal systems at a cost of $775,885.
The work will be done at the intersections of Brookwood Way and Fourth Street; Mulberry Street and Ohio 39; and Cline and Marion avenues, according to city engineer Bob Bianchi.
“These signals are archaic and in need of replacement,” he said.
Perram Electric, Inc., of Wadsworth was awarded the contract after it submitted the lowest of four bids for the project, which had been estimated to cost $850,000.
The project has already been approved by City Council.
Other bids came from The Ruhlin Company from Sharon Center, Ohio, ($859,927), Miller Cable Co. from Green Springs, Ohio ($996,516) and Danbert Electric Co. from Plain City, Ohio ($1,046,053).
The Board of Control also awarded a $78,000 contract to K.E. McCartney & Associates for construction administration and inspection of the project.
An estimated $400,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission will pay for nearly half of the project, according to Bianchi, who said other funding sources will be the street department ($300,000) and a portion of the city’s share of the permissive sales tax (up to $175,000).
Bianchi said it can take up to 10 months to receive the signal poles, which he said cannot be ordered until the foundation is placed. It will be 2026 before residents will see construction on the project, he said.
The Board of Control also approved two projects related to a 3,300-foot long concrete, multi-use path being constructed on the south side of Millsboro Road between Trimble Road and Marion Avenue.
The projects will be done using $150,000 in funding from the state’s capital budget.
The board awarded a $73,659 contract to Perram Electric to install lighted bollards through the section of the path that “meanders” through Mansfield Art Center property.
It also approved a $65,960 contract with Smith Paving & Excavating from Norwalk to install a brick sidewalk and concrete curb ramps across Millsboro Road where it intersects with Marion Avenue.
