The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued an updated winter weather message at 3:02 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27.

A wind chill warning is now in effect until noon on Wednesday. The Wind Chill Advisory is canceled. West to southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph. with gusts around 25 mph, can be expected this evening and during the day Tuesday.

Temperatures will drop to 5 to 12 degrees below zero tonight and again Tuesday night. Highs Tuesday will only be zero to 5 above. Wind chill readings of 20 to 30 below zero will be common much of the time through Wednesday morning.

Hypothermia and frostbite are possible with extended exposure to the cold. If you will be outdoors, use common sense and dress warmly in layers, making sure that all exposed skin is covered.

Both a Wind Chill Warning and a Wind Chill Advisory are issued when strong winds combine with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for exposed skin; however, a Wind Chill Warning indicates colder temperatures.

A Wind Chill Warning means life threatening cold with wind chill temperatures computed to be -40 degrees or less for at least 3 hours. Exposure to this combination of strong winds and low temperatures without protective clothing will quickly lead to frostbite and/or hypothermia. Longer exposures can be fatal.

A Wind Chill Advisory is issued for cold temperatures and winds, with wind chill temperatures computed to be -25 degrees or less for at least 3 hours. Exposure to this combination of strong winds and low temperatures without protective clothing can lead to frostbite and/or hypothermia; prolonged exposure may be fatal.
