Shawn Wyatt Carver, age 52, passed away at Ohio Health on Sunday morning, June 1, 2025. He had been in failing health since suffering a stroke in 2021. In March of 2025, he contracted Flu A, that led to septic shock, and eventually his death.
Shawn was born on June 10, 1972, in Crestline, Ohio. He was the youngest of 3 sons born to Dennis E. and Glenda Smith Carver (Barker/Thibeau). Shawn is survived by his mother Glenda Thibeau, brothers Steven Carver and Shannon Carver, and “adopted” son Matthew Moyer and his family. Also surviving are aunts Gloria Skidmore, Sandra Carver, and Susan Smith; uncles Harold (Jan) Smith and Jerry (Carol Sauer) Smith; special cousin Scott Skidmore; special aunt Vi Jacques; and dear friend and mentor Troy Moore. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father Dennis E. Carver; step-fathers Charles Barker Jr. and Alden Thibeau; paternal grandparents Paul E. Carver, Mary (Bird) Carver Cordrey, and Carl Cordrey; maternal grandparents Lou E. Smith and Mary J. Smith; aunt Starlette Britt; and uncles Larry Britt and Bill Skidmore.
Shawn was a born comedian. He loved making people laugh. He enjoyed playing the guitar and being an entertainer at some of the local bars in Mansfield. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a machinist by trade and worked at shops in Mansfield, Galion and Bucyrus.
During the last months of his life, Shawn’s desires changed. He recognized his need for salvation and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He told his mom that God gave him peace in his heart, regardless of the difficult time he was going through.
Shawn didn’t want a funeral service, so there won’t be one. Please remember him as the kind and sweet man he was, who never complained. He went with whatever life gave him, and made the best of it. Special thanks to nurses Bob, Aimee, and Teresa and STNAs Megan, Maddie and April at Crystal Care Center of Mansfield.
