SHELBY — Shelby High School graduated 173 seniors during its 150th commencement ceremony Sunday afternoon inside the high school gymnasium.

The Shelby High School symphonic band opened Sunday’s commencement exercises, followed by a welcome from high school principal John Gies.

The chamber choir also performed two songs.

Shelby Superintendent Michael Browning congratulated the Class of 2025 and welcomed high school math teacher and coach Scott Gurney, who delivered the class address. Gurney is a 1991 Shelby High School grad.

Michael Vogt, Class of 2025 valedictorian, also shared a message to his peers.

Diplomas were presented by several teachers and employees of Shelby City Schools. Seniors were able to select who they wanted to receive their diploma from.

The class colors were red and gray and the class flower was a white rose. A quote from Michael Josephson was selected as the class motto:

Take pride in how far you have come. But don’t forget to enjoy the journey. Have faith in how far you can go.

Michael Josephson
