SHELBY — Shelby High School’s Recognition Assembly lasted just over two hours Friday morning.

If you do the math, nearly $2,242 in scholarships were awarded every 60 seconds within those 120 minutes to seniors in the Class of 2025.

In total, $268,550 in local scholarships were distributed Friday.

Shelby High School Principal John Gies said this year’s assembly set new highs in the number of scholarships awarded and amount of money given to students. There’s truly nothing like it in the area, he said.

On Wednesday night, more than $16,000 in scholarships were awarded among eight Shelby FFA members during its annual banquet.

Graduation is set for Sun., May 25 at 3 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Eight awards related to both athletics and academics were also distributed Friday morning.

  • Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award: Sydney Bachtel and Cohen Sturts
  • Courageous Student Award: Brody Baker
  • OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award: Rees Lewis and Michael Vogt
