BELLVILLE — The Whippets scored in bunches in Monday afternoon’s high school softball game.

Shelby scored four runs in the fourth and five in the seventh in a 9-4 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win at Clear Fork.

The game was tied 4-4 in the seventh when the Whippets came to life.

Liberty Lewis led off with a single and came all the way around to score when Karlie Walp’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed. Natalie Kennard’s fielder’s choice plated Walp to make it 6-4. Kennard scored on Kelsey Young’s single and two more runs scored on bases-loaded walks.

Young was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Katie Taylor was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in Shelby’s four-run fourth. Braylee Sturts also homered for the Whippets (13-7 overall, 9-2 in the MOAC).

Mya Perry had a pair of hits for the Colts (10-6, 7-2), including a double. Miley Shafer belted a home run.

Alyssa Booker picked up the complete-game victory, giving up five hits while striking out two.

The teams will meet again Wednesday in Shelby.
