MANSFIELD — A Columbus man could be sentenced to life behind bars if convicted of raping a child who was under 10 years old at the time of the alleged crime.
Bradley Quesenberry, 37, was indicted by a Richland County grand jury on two counts of rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition.
“We have an allegation of (abuse) when the child was 8 years old and then 10 years old,” Richland County Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher said.
The prosecutor noted a break in the dates when the alleged abuse occurred. The first three charges against Quesenberry allegedly took place between March 2020 and December 2023, while the other counts allegedly occurred between December 2023 and January 2024.
Schumacher said the defendant has always resided in Columbus, but he had access to the child victim locally.
“This was investigated by the (Richland County) Sheriff’s Office, so it (alleged offenses) would have occurred within the county (Richland),” she said.
Fisher charged in connection with fatal Shelby hit-skip crash
Kaleb Fisher, 24, was charged with two counts of failure to stop after an accident and one count of vehicular homicide. The charges stem from a fatal hit-skip crash on Mickey Road in Shelby which claimed the life of 61-year-old Barbara Warner on Nov. 26, 2024.
According to previous reporting, Warner was walking on Mickey Road near Martin Drive when she was struck by a vehicle.
“These tips from the public were instrumental in assisting the investigation and ultimately led troopers to locate the Ford Edge and the driver who fled after striking (Warner),” a media release from the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in November.
The first count of failure to stop after an accident is a second-degree felony and the second count a third-degree felony. Vehicular homicide is a first-degree misdemeanor.
“Those (failure to stop after an accident counts) are charged as felonies due to a death resulting,” Schumacher said.
Teen indicted on reckless homicide
Jayden Kelly, 17, was indicted on charges of reckless homicide, including two firearm specifications, a discretionary serious youthful offender (at least 14) specification and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance.
The prosecutor said Kelly was 16 when the alleged offenses took place on April 3, 2024. He was bound over to be charged in adult court, she said, adding Kelly’s co-defendant was charged as a juvenile.
“In the indictment, we don’t allege that this was (a) purposeful killing,” Schumacher said.
“In this instance, it was juveniles playing around with firearms. Firearms are not toys.
“When you don’t respect a firearm and access is easily had, tragedies can happen. That’s exactly what happened here,” she said.
The victim was 16-year-old Jaylin Favers.
