SHELBY — A Shelby man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-skip crash which claimed the life of a 61-year-old Shelby woman early Tuesday morning.
The hit-skip driver, identified as Kaleb Fisher, 24, of Shelby, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Mansfield and incarcerated at the Richland County Jail, according to a media release from the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
Fisher was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence, both felonies, OSHP said.
Troopers received multiple tips from the public following the fatal hit-skip crash that occurred Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m. in Shelby.
Barbara Warner, 61, was walking on Mickey Road near Martin Drive when she was struck by a previously unknown vehicle, authorities stated in a press release.
Warner was transported to Ohio Health Shelby Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
“These tips from the public were instrumental in assisting the investigation and ultimately led troopers to locate the Ford Edge and the driver who fled after striking (Warner),” the release said.
OSHP was assisted throughout the investigation by the Shelby Police Department and the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.
