BELLVILLE — Bellville police Chief Jon Fletcher said there’s no reason for public alarm after a stabbing incident involving a man and a woman in the village.
Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred on Wednesday.
Bellville police were dispatched to a home in the area of Main Street and Durbin Avenue in reference a male subject with stab wounds, according to a press release from the department.
A call report, obtained from the Bellville Police Department via public records request, showed a call about the incident came in around 8:17 a.m.
Jefferson Township EMS was also on the scene and providing medical treatment when police were notified of a second individual with injuries in the area of Mill Street and Main Street, according to a department press release.
The department later confirmed the second individual was a woman. Fletcher said she did not have stab wounds, but police believe the incidents are related.
Both people were taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. One has since been released. Fletcher said he did not know the status of the other individual
Fletcher said police spoke to several witnesses and are still working to piece together the timeline of events. Fletcher said the police do not have a suspect at this time.
“Right now, you could look at it both ways. They could both be suspects or they could both be victims. That’s the part that we’re still investigating and putting together,” Fletcher said.
“We’ve got just about all the witnesses we believe were present at the time.”
He said the department is keeping the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office informed as the investigation develops and he expects charges will follow.
