SHELBY — Numbers don’t lie and Eve Schwemley’s numbers tell the story of a historic season.

The North Central Ohio Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Schwemley averaged an area-best 21.4 points a game and became just the seventh player in Shelby history to top the 1,000-point plateau.

But that only tells part of the story.

Schwemley led the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference in both free-throw shooting percentage (99-114, 86.8%) and 3-point field goal shooting (47-117, 40.2%). She also ranked second in the conference with 3.9 steals a game and fourth in assists (3.6 per game).

What’s more, she led the Whippets to their seventh straight MOAC title. Shelby was 22-3 and reached the Division IV district championship game before falling to eventual state champ Bellevue 43-39.

An Ohio Dominican recruit, Schwemley was selected the MOAC Player of the Year and was the Division IV Player of the Year in District 6 and the Northwest District. She is the headliner of an eight-player all-area team that combined to average 128.3 points a game.
