BUCYRUS — Wombat Solar would like to thank the Bucyrus Community for the success of its ribbon cutting and open house which was held last Thursday, March 13. Its office is located at 100 W. Rensselaer St. in downtown Bucyrus.

Over 40 community members attended the open house. Director of Development, Wes Smith, and Director of Community Relations, Leah Cordy, were present to answer questions about the project.

The Crawford County Chamber of Commerce presented Wombat Solar with a certificate to commemorate the day.

“We can’t wait to continue the work we’ve been doing, and to keep being a good neighbor for Crawford County,” Smith said.

Attendees who brought a canned food item were entered into a raffle basket. The “Taste of Bucyrus” basket included local goods including a Crossroads candle and some gift cards to some Bucyrus restaurants.

The food drive collected over 100 nonperishable food items, which were donated to the Salvation Army and New Day Ministries Outreach Center.

Attendees also had the opportunity to see the office space, grab refreshments, and learn more about the project. Katering Kountry Style catered cookies, and Norton’s Flowers provided sunflower bouquets.

A real solar panel was available for participants to feel and learn from.

The office space, located in the Old Crawford Land Title Agency building, will be a central location for meetings and information.

“We couldn’t have asked for a sunnier day for our ribbon cutting,” Julia Schaefer, Local Ambassador for Wombat Solar said. “We’re excited to have a place in beautiful downtown where anyone can stop by and learn more about our project.

“I’d like to thank the Crawford County Chamber of Commerce for their help in planning this exciting event.”

Schaefer holds office hours on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wombat Solar is celebrating over a year of activity in the Bucyrus area. Their “Rebuild and Recover” Grant Program aimed to support the community after the tornadoes in April of last year.

The grant program has continued as a quarterly community grant that supports nonprofits in all sectors. The Q1 grant recipients are set to be announced later this month.
