HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — Two senior citizens were killed Friday after a motorcycle crash in Seneca County, according to the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Ronald Kuyken, 74, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Patrol reported. The passenger on the motorcycle, Susan Kuyken, 65, of Fremont was transported by ambulance to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
The crash occurredat 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 18 and County Road 26 in Hopewell Township.
The preliminary investigation showed a 2015 Ford Taurus, operated by Hadiya Batts, 29,
of Tiffin, was westbound on County Road 26. Batts failed to yield at the posted stop sign at
State Route 18 and was struck by a northwest bound 2015 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler,
operated by Ronald Kuyken.
Batts received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, according to the Patrol. Mr. and Mrs. Kuyken were not wearing helmets, and Ms. Batts was wearing her seat belt.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Bascom Fire Department, Tiffin EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, John’s Towing, Seneca County Coroner, Seneca County Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The intersection and roadways were temporarily closed for two hours during the investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
