LEXINGTON: Hattie “Joretta” (Morrison) Walton (age 91) passed away on February 12, 2025. At Lexington Court Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Joretta was born in Newville, West Virginia on November 29, 1933 to parents Cecil William Morrison and Olive Wanda (Kniceley) Morrison. She was one of 10 siblings. Joretta was a devout follower of Christ, often reading books and finding ways to meditate on her faith. She was a member of the Pines Christian Church in Mt. Gilead where she worshipped alongside her beloved church family. She was a voracious reader, her favorite books being biographies and about nature and animals. Joretta’s green thumb allowed her vegetable and flower gardens to flourish. As well as spending time in her garden, Joretta loved cooking and baking for her husband and children, and was well known for her pies. She got to fulfill one of her life dreams in living in a cabin in Montana with her husband Herb Walton, and went on the Boseman Trail horse camp; wagon trip like the old time settlers of the west.
Joretta is survived by her children William (April) Bright of Johnsville – Harold “Lee” (Jodie) Bright of Ashland – Kim (Esther) Walton of Mansfield – Vienna Walton of Mansfield – 9 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 10 Great Great Grandchildren. She is also
survived by her sister Betty Parker of Bellville. She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Olive Morrison, husband Herb Walton, nine siblings and son Steven M. Bright.
Her family asks that friends and loved ones of Joretta find their own way to honor and celebrate her memory as they remember her privately. Her final wishes were to be laid to rest in Montana where a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
