LEXINGTON — Junior Seven Allen did a little bit of everything on Friday night, and the Lexington Minutemen needed all of it.

The 5-foot-10 point guard hit a huge 3-pointer in overtime, added a key free throw and blocked a final shot to push Lexington to a 56-54 overtime win over visiting Berlin Hiland in Friday night’s non-conference boys basketball clash.

Allen finished with 17 points and four rebounds and nailed half of his team’s six treys. Junior center Joe Caudill contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hawks got 15 points apiece from Alexander Miller and Nicholas Wigton.

Lexington dominated the lane, shooting 72 percent inside the arc (18-of-25) and enjoying a 30-23 rebounding advantage.

Coach Scott Hamilton’s squad opened a 14-9 first-quarter lead and coasted to a 31-26 halftime advantage. The Hawks put the clamps on during a fine defensive third period, allowing just five points while moving on top 39-36.

Lex fought back in the fourth quarter to force overtime at 50-50, and outscored the visitors 6-4 in the extra session.

Lexington improves to 18-3 overall.

Hiland falls to 19-2 and now heads into tournament play. The Hawks only other loss this season came Feb. 1 to Canal Winchester Harvest Prep, 59-45.
