The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library and local branch libraries have organized a series of events to be hosted for the new year. Below are descriptions of the events.
Decorative Votive: Families with children can add some warmth and color to their rooms while the cold snow blows outdoors. Come to the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Butler Branch on Monday, January 13 at 6 p.m. to decorate some little jars with colors of your choice. Take them home and add a candle to make your own votive. This program is also scheduled for the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Lucas Branch on Thursday, January 16 at 6 p.m. To sign-up call the Butler Branch at 419-883-2220 or the Lucas Branch at 419-892-2576.
Let’s Have an Art Attack: Children of all ages can come to the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library and help celebrate the life of artist Jackson Pollock. Participants may get messy with paint, so please wear appropriate clothing. The program is free, but sign-up is required. The following is the schedule for the program: Plymouth Branch – Monday, January 13 at 6 p.m. (419-687-5655); Crestview Branch – Thursday, January 16 at 6 p.m. (419-895-0010).
Series-ly Super Series: On Tuesday, January 14 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. the Mansfield library is hosting a book club for children ages seven and older. In this book series, kids and their families take care of animals that need special care. The series includes Rainbow Street Shelter, Vet Volunteers, Animal Ark, Pet Trouble, Puppy Place, and others. Splat the Cat: The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Bellville Branch welcomes families on Tuesday, January 14 at 6 p.m. for stories about the loveable character, Splat the Cat. We will have lots of laughs and make a craft!
Exploring Watercolor: Children can experiment using watercolors with different techniques at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Main Library on Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. Call 419-521-3130 to sign-up.
Crafternoons at the Library: Come to the Plymouth Branch of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and enjoy a simple craft to help pass the time – or bring your own to work on. No sign-up is necessary.
Snow Much Fun: Children of all ages can join the Mansfield library for a fun afternoon on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. There will be stories, snowy crafts, and a snowball fight. To sign-up call 419-521-3130.
Self-defense for Teens: You may not be breaking any boards, but local martial arts expert will show you some basic self-defense moves on Monday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Bellville Branch. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to move. This program is for grades 6-12. Call 419-886-3811 to sign up.
“Spa”Tacular: Join the Madison Branch of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. for an evening of good clean fun as the staff provides easy instruction on making your own beauty products. Choose your favorite colors and scents, and then decorate your new line of bath products. All supplies will be provided. This program is for grades 6 – 12. Sign-up is required. Stockdale Family Band: Come see the Stockdale Family Band at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Main Library on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. This five member family band performs a combination of traditional Bluegrass with a touch of Appalachian music. All music programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Mah Jongg at Ontario Branch: Share in an opportunity to learn Mah Jongg or share your knowledge with others while playing at the Ontario Branch of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. and Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. The basics of the game will be taught to beginners and more advanced players can enjoy a relaxed game. No need to register.
Learning to Crochet Series: The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Main Library on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 21, and 28 at 6 p.m. will be hosting a three-part series on learning to crochet. Please bring a size F or G hook and cotton yarn. To sign-up call 419-521-3110.
Ontario Book Chatter: The Tuesday afternoon book discussion group will meet at the Ontario Branch of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. This month everybody in the group will be discussing “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie. No sign-up is required.
