The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in force during the Labor Day Weekend.

LATEST UPDATE : U.S. 30 westbound, just west of SR 89 in Ashland County, now has one lane open, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday. The road was previously closed due to a crash that took out a guardrail at a bridge. The lane is open between Township Road 405 and County Road 2175. A temporary barrier was put in place by ODOT and signage is posted for the lane closure. Motorists are reminded to use caution in the area.

MOHICAN TOWNSHIP – An injury accident late Friday afternoon closed the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 at State Route 89 in Ashland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

As of 11:20 a.m. Saturday, the interstate was closed as crews work to repair the damage done at a bridge, officials said.

David Guthrie, 62, of North Manchester, Indiana was transported to University Hospital Ashland Samaritan with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Patrol, at approximately 4:50 p.m. Friday, a yellow 2024 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck and tanker trailer was westbound on U.S. 30 near milepost 9 in Ashland County.

The commercial truck traveled off the left side of the road, entered the median and struck a guardrail. The truck then struck a bridge rail and fell approximately 20 feet into a creek. The truck was hauling a load of cheese whey concentrate.

The westbound lanes of U.S. 30 are closed at State Route 89, according to Saturday’s 2 a.m. press release. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has set up a detour at the intersection.

Motorists are urged to stay clear of the area and find alternate routes around the crash scene.

Emergency personnel are continuing the clean-up and an update will be sent out when the area is open for travel.
