MANSFIELD – The Renaissance Theatre invites jazz enthusiasts and swing fans to an unforgettable evening with the Artistic Jazz Orchestra (AJO) as they pay homage to the legendary Count Basie Orchestra.
“Artistic Jazz Orchestra: The Music of Count Basie” takes place on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and promises to bring the vibrant sound of big-band swing to life.
Under the expert direction of Maestro Paul Martin, the AJO will perform a selection of Count Basie’s most celebrated works.
This special evening will also feature performances by guest artists Brian Michael Smith, a Rat Pack-style crooner who will bring Sinatra-Basie collaborations to the stage, and Kelly Knowlton, whose vocals will highlight pieces made famous by Diane Schuur.
Count Basie
Born William James Basie in Red Bank, New Jersey, in 1904, Count Basie transformed the jazz landscape and popularized big-band swing, earning the title “King of Swing.”
Known for his unique fusion of blues and jazz, Basie’s music inspired countless audiences to dance and helped define mid-20th-century popular music.
Leading the Count Basie Orchestra for nearly 50 years, Basie’s enduring legacy includes Grammy-winning classics like “One O’Clock Jump” and “April in Paris.”
His influence remains a cornerstone of jazz and swing music today.
