Rev. Renato Siewert, 70, of Mansfield, passed away early Thursday morning, July 14, 2016, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born June 5, 1946, in Joinville, Brazil, to the late Erwin E. and Elly (Moebs) Siewert.
He grew up in Brazil and graduated from college while living there. In 1974, he came to the United States and settled in Bexley, Ohio. Rev. Siewert completed his Master of Theology degree in clinical pastoral education at Trinity Lutheran Seminary and Riverside Methodist Hospital. In 1986, he moved to Mansfield to serve as pastor of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He also worked at the Mansfield Post Office for many years.
Renato was an avid naturalist and appreciated the beauty of birds and nature. He was a master gardener and was a member of the Mansfield Men’s Garden Club and also won Garden of the Year. He closely followed The Ohio State Buckeyes. Renato enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Mansfield Liederkranz.
He was devoted to his family and every decision he made had their best interests in mind. Renato’s legacy as a loving husband, father and grandfather will carry on in the lives of his family. His loving canine companions were his angels.
Renato is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elaine (Moehlecke) Siewert; two children, Rafaela (Hunter) Siewert-Bottoms of Columbus, Ohio and Roberto (Rachael) Siewert of Deerfield Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Sofia E. Bottoms and Addison M. Bottoms; a brother, Edegard (Valeria) Siewert; a sister, Traude Siewert; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Wolfe of Clintonville Heights Lutheran Church officiating. Contributions in memory of Rev. Renato Siewert may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
