MANSFIELD — Preparations are under way at The Mansfield Playhouse for its 49th season at the 95 E. Third St. location.
Improvements to the facility continue as the Playhouse organizers continue to strive to make the audience experience a pleasant one. A recently re-paved parking lot, new parking lot lighting and even a new roof treatment are just a few of the changes for the building itself.
Auditions are set for the opening production of “Little Shop of Horrors” on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 3 beginning at 7 p.m. each night. Those interested should prepare at least 32 measures of music to sing highlighting their vocal range. Cold readings of the script will also be included.
the Playhouse also will be taking an excerpt from the Children’s Theatre production of “Into the Woods Jr.” to a statewide competition. OCTA Jr. will be an event in Wadsworth on Saturday, Aug. 6 which is hosting nine different theatres from in and around the state. The youth will be performing and competing against groups of their peers ranging in age from 6 to 18. Awards will be granted to individuals as well as the ensemble, direction and more at the end of the day. The first and second place winners of the competition are then invited to the State OCTA conference to perform for the adults in September.
Auditions for the Children’s Theatre production of Dreamwork’s “Shrek, The Musical, Jr.” will then take place on Aug. 30 and 31 at 6 p.m. The same requirements for those auditioning as previously listed will apply.
Further features for the Playhouse include a full time beer and wine licensing for the season, making these additions to concessions available to select Main Stage and Second Stage productions.
