WHETSONE TOWNSHIP — A 30-year-old Crestline man was arrested on a felonious assault charge Tuesday after 15 bullet holes were found in a house in Whetstone Township, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday morning, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in the 1500 block of Olentangy Road in Whetstone Township, northwest of Galion.

The property owner reported his house had been shot several times. Deputies found approximately 15 bullet holes in the residence.

Deputies secured the residence and requested the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation to to assist in processing the scene. Deputies remained on THE scene with BCI until around 11 p.m., according to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities found several spent bullet casings around the outside of the residence and recovered several of the bullets found inside the residence. While conducting the investigation, deputies were able to obtain security footage of suspects that were at the residence during the shooting, according to the sheriff’s department.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Daniel P. Looney, 30, of Crestline. Looney was arrested without incident by the Ontario Police Department when deputies alerted them that Looney was in their jurisdiction.

Looney, whose address is listed in Bucyrus Municipal Court records as 1034 Bibich Court, was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center. No bond had been set as of Wednesday morning, according to court records, which listed the charge as a second-degree felony.

Deputies also served a search warrant at Looney’s residence, according to the sheriff’s department.

During the search, deputies located and seized firearms and ammunition along with electronic devices. Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Crestline Police Department, Crestline Fire Department and the Crawford County Dog Warden, the sheriff’s office said.

This case is still ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office and a report will be submitted to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges against individuals involved with this case.
