MANSFIELD — The Tygers are taking over Saturday afternoons.
Former Mansfield Senior football players pepper Division I college football rosters across the state and country.
No fewer than seven former Senior High standouts are playing at the highest level of college football. Here’s a look at how they are doing through the first month of the season:
Angelo Grose
A redshirt senior defensive back, Grose is in his final season of eligibility at Michigan State. The 5-foot-10, 192-pound defensive back ranks second on the team with 19 tackles through the first four games of the season.
He made 12 stops, intercepted a pass and forced a fumble in Michigan State’s season-opening 16-10 win over Florida Atlantic. The four-year letterman has 250 career tackles and four career interceptions
Aveon Grose
A redshirt sophomore defensive back, Aveon joined older brother Angelo at Michigan State this year after stints at Charlotte and Southern Illinois. Aveon has appeared in three of Michigan State’s four games and has registered three tackles.
He made a pair of stops in the season-opener against Florida Atlantic and had a tackle in last week’s 23-19 loss at Boston College
Anthony Hawkins
A senior defensive lineman, Hawkins is in his final season of eligibility at Bowling Green. Hawkins is a two-time captain for the Falcons (1-2), whose losses are to No. 8 Penn State (34-27) and No. 25 Texas A&M (26-20).
Hawkins ranks fourth on the team with 16 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He has 126 career tackles and six career sacks.
Myles Bradley
A redshirt sophomore outside linebacker, Bradley has appeared in all three games for Bowling Green. He is tied for 10th on the team with seven tackles.
Bradley appeared in three games for the Falcons last year and made four tackles. He had two tackles in BGSU’s 30-24 loss to Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl last December.
Elias Owens
A true freshman at Bowling Green, Owens has yet to make his collegiate debut. He is listed on BGSU’s roster as an outside linebacker.
Keontez Bradley
A redshirt freshman defensive back at Arizona State, Bradley has made three tackles in four games for the Sun Devils (3-1). He recorded a pair of tackles in ASU’s season-opener against Wyoming and made one stop in last week’s loss at Texas Tech.
Bradley played in four games as a true freshman, the maximum number allowable in order to retain his redshirt.
Ahmaan Thomas
A true freshman offensive tackle at Buffalo, Thomas has yet to make an appearance this season. The Bulls are off to a 3-1 start, including last week’s 23-20 overtime victory at No. 23 Northern Illinois.
