GALION — The Galion Historical Society has announced registration is open for their Arts and History Camp from June 13 through 17.
The five-day camp is open to 30 students from fourth to eighth grade. Walk-in registrations are permitted if space is available.
Galion Historical Society Director Andee Wildenthaler said this year’s camp was made possible by a $1,700 grant from the Ohio Arts Council. She looks forward to the five days planned.
Campers will learn about city and civil life through a historical lens with Thomas Palmer during the camp’s first day. On day two, campers will learn about historical travel options, namely, the Galion Big Four Depot.
Day three will have the students learn about Galion’s farm and rural life as they plant an herb garden at the Brownella Cottage. Students will then design their own board game at the Galion Community Theater on day four, and hear baseball legends and lore from Mayor Tom O’Leary on day five.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Wildenthaler said.
Registration is $20 per student. Campers are encouraged to bring a packed lunch every day, except on day three. Each day will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
